OnDemand Transit

OnDemand is BC Transit’s modern on-request transit option that offers transit riders the convenience of booking trips using a smartphone app, or by phone. OnDemand service offers more direct trips, quicker commutes, and shorter wait times.

BC Transit is excited to offer this on-request transit option to customers travelling within the Crawford neighborhood of Kelowna, B.C.

How to Ride with OnDemand

It’s your choice how to book – app or phone. OnDemand transit is available in the Crawford area, Monday to Friday from:

7:00 a.m. to 7:50 a.m.
8:30 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.
4:00 p.m. to 7 p.m.
And weekends/holidays from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Please note that on weekdays from 7:50 AM to 8:30 AM and from 3:20 PM to 4:00 PM, transit service switches to a scheduled route starting from Mission Rec to the Crawford neighbourhood and back.

Regular transit fares and payment options apply to OnDemand trips.

  1. Follow the link to download the OnDemand app from the Google Play Store or Apple Store and then create an account following the steps shown.
  2. Using the app, select your desired pick-up and drop-off locations and the number of seats required.​
  3. Receive a confirmation and the Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) of your ride.​
  4. Track your ride in real-time and receive reminders 15 minutes and 5 minutes before pick-up via the OnDemand app.​
  5. Arrive at your pickup location 5 minutes before the indicated ETA.​
  6. When your vehicle arrives, board and provide the driver the name you used to book.
  7. Pay for your ride just like normal; using Umo, a paper fare or cash.​ Ensure you have enough fare to transfer, if required.​
  8. Check the OnDemand app to track the progress of your ride and be ready to get off at your stop.​
  9. Exit the bus when it arrives at your destination and the driver announces it’s your stop.​
  10. Complete the rest of your trip using your favourite trip planner such as Transit App, Google Maps, etc.

  4. Arrive at your pickup location 5 minutes before the ETA of your ride.​
  5. When your vehicle arrives, board and provide your name to the driver.​
  6. Pay for your ride just like normal; using Umo, a paper fare or cash.​
  7. Ensure you have enough fare to transfer, if required.​
  8. Be ready to get off at your stop.​
  9. Exit the bus when it arrives at your destination and the driver announces it’s your stop.​
  10. Complete the rest of your trip using your favourite trip planning tool such as a Rider’s Guide, Bus stop schedule posters, Transit App. Google Maps, etc.​

Customers can book trips through the BC Transit OnDemand app or by phoning the call centre at 1∙855∙995∙5872

  • BC Transit is offering a hybrid approach to best service the Crawford area with fixed-route service during peak hours and OnDemand during all other times. 
  • Fixed-route service is available on route 15 twice a day Monday through Friday between 8:00-8:30 a.m. and 3:30-4:00 p.m.
  • OnDemand transit is available Monday through Friday during these times: 
    • 7:00 a.m. to 7:50 a.m. 
    • 8:30 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.  
    • 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
    • Weekends/holidays 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. 

Request OnDemand transportation with these simple steps:   

  • Download the BC Transit OnDemand app or call our customer service number;  
  • Select pick-up and drop-off locations and the number of seats required;  
  • Track your ride in real-time through the BC Transit OnDemand app;  
  • Hop on the bus and provide your name to the driver;  
  • Pay for the ride with Umo, with a paper fare or with cash onboard the bus.  Please note that our Transit Drivers do not carry change. 
  • When booking a trip, customers will be advised of their pick-up Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) and location.  
  • If using the BC Transit OnDemand App, customers will receive reminders when their OnDemand vehicle is 15 minutes and 5 minutes away. As well upon arrival.  
  • Customers should be ready and waiting at their pick-up location by the indicated ETA.  
  • The OnDemand vehicle operator will wait up to 3 minutes after arrival before departing to serve other scheduled customers.  
  • Existing BC Transit bus stops will be become OnDemand stops. 
  • There will be additional virtual stops added, and these locations will be visible on the BC Transit OnDemand app. 
  • As part of this launch, no new transit shelters will be installed. 
  • Yes, the OnDemand bus can be tracked in real-time on the BC Transit OnDemand app.  
  • You can download the app by searching “BC Transit OnDemand” in the Apple store or Google Play for Android. 
  • After downloading and installing the BC Transit OnDemand app, enter your phone number and other relevant information to activate your account and to start planning your trips!  
  • Customers will be notified by the BC Transit OnDemand app if a scheduled pick-up time changes. 
  • Be sure to have your notifications for the app turned on to ensure you receive all the important information you need.  
  • If your plans change and you no longer require your trip, please cancel your booking as soon as possible.  
  • If you require modifications to your trip, we ask that you cancel your original trip and book a new one on the BC Transit OnDemand App or by calling our customer service representatives during office hours. 
  • Customers should book trips at the time they are ready to ride.  
  • If the Estimated Time of Arrival proposed is too soon, customers can try to book again later when they are ready to travel. 
  • Bike racks on community buses can be used during daylight hours, however, bike racks cannot but used on community buses during non-daylight hours as bikes block the headlights.

  • OnDemand will only be available to transit customers traveling within the Crawford neighbourhood, or to and from the Mission Rec Transit Exchange.
  • OnDemand uses a dynamic routing system and trips need to be booked through the BC Transit OnDemand app or by phone with a booking agent during business hours.
