Whistler to Receive New Bike Racks

Whistler – As of May 2017, all buses in Whistler will be fully equipped with specialized bike racks, with installation slated to begin in April 2017.  This announcement follows the successful trial of two VelPorter bike rack systems this past fall.

Stay active with your monthly bus pass in the Cowichan Valley

Cowichan Valley – Regular transit users in the Cowichan Valley will again be able to use their monthly transit passes to stay active. BC Transit, the Cowichan Valley Regional District, the Municipality of North Cowichan and the Town of Ladysmith will be extending the Free Swim or Gym to the end of 2017.

Tender issued for new southbound Victoria bus and bike priority lanes

Victoria – The tender process has begun for the southbound Douglas Street bus and bike priority lanes, which will reach from Tolmie Avenue to Hillside Avenue. Once complete, the bus lanes will run northbound and southbound from Fisgard Avenue to Tolmie Avenue.

Victoria Regional Transit System expansion proceeding for September 2017

Victoria – The Province of BC and the Victoria Regional Transit Commission (VRTC) have announced that needed service expansion will move ahead in 2017/18 thanks to an interim funding solution provided by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and BC Transit.  The addition of $1.63 million of provincial funding will add 20,000 hours and eight new buses to the system, and allow for needed expanded service to growing areas of the region, such as the Westshore, as well as additional trips on many routes to maintain on-time performance.

Implementation Planning Begins for Transit to Hope

Hope – Implementation work has begun for a dedicated transit route to the Hope region. The new route, which will include a connection to the Agassiz-Harrison service, will depart four times a day, six days a week.

Bus security camera installation begins in Nelson

Nelson – Phased installation of closed-circuit TV (CCTV) cameras on six BC Transit buses in Nelson will begin in April. All medium- and heavy-duty buses acquired after 2005 will have the cameras installed, and new buses, 27 feet and longer, will be delivered with the cameras already factory-installed.
