South Cowichan Local Area Transit Plan
In January 2024, the Cowichan Valley Regional District endorsed the South Cowichan Local Area Transit Plan . This plan identifies service changes in the South Cowichan area over the next several years that will work to reduce travel time and increase service frequency. Cowichan Valley Transit Future Action Plan
In February 2023, the Cowichan Valley Regional District endorsed the Cowichan Valley Transit Future Action Plan . This planning document identifies service and infrastructure improvements over the next five years for the Cowichan Valley. We thank everyone who participated in the development of this plan for their contributions!
Cowichan Valley Regional District and the Regional District of Nanaimo
In March 2021, the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) and Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) boards endorsed the CVRD/RDN Interregional Transit Service Discussion Document and directed BC Transit and its partners to proceed with implementation planning for the preferred option.
The preferred service option was recommended based on market demand studies and extensive key stakeholder and public engagement. More information about the proposed service option, routing, timelines, and next steps can be found in the Service Discussion Document .
The need for transit service between the Cowichan Valley Regional District and Regional District of Nanaimo was identified in the Cowichan Valley Region Transit Future Plan (2012), Regional District of Nanaimo Transit Future Plan (2014), and the South Nanaimo Local Area Transit Plan (2019).
