Corporate – On March 18, BC Transit will join all other transit systems across North America in celebrating International Transit Driver Appreciation Day, an annual event created to recognize the professionals who safely and reliably get people where they need to go every day.

“BC Transit drivers keep our communities moving and their work plays a big part in making British Columbia a good place for people to live,” said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Claire Trevena. “I recently had a chance to learn about ‘a day in the life’ of a transit driver—as well as getting to drive a bus—and I have a deep appreciation for the skills and professionalism involved in this demanding job. So on this day, a big thanks to all the hardworking drivers out there.”

In honour of our over 1,350 transit operators across British Columbia, BC Transit has collected stories from communities across the province and produced a series of short videos showcasing some of the dedicated people behind the wheel.

“At BC Transit, every day is Transit Driver Appreciation Day,” said Manuel Achadinha, President and Chief Executive Officer of BC Transit. “We’re proud of our team of transit operators, whose professionalism and commitment to safety and excellent customer service allow us to deliver efficient and effective service every day to customers across the province.”

To view BC Transit’s driver appreciation videos, visit our YouTube Channel, Facebook page or Twitter feed. BC Transit will release new videos starting Thursday, March 1, and leading up to Transit Driver Appreciation Day, which we will be celebrating on Friday, March 16. BC Transit systems featured this year include Central Fraser Valley, Victoria, Nanaimo and Chilliwack.

Bus riders wishing to make Transit Driver Appreciation Day more special for their favourite operators can use the hashtag #TDAD on social media, or simply thank their driver whenever they exit the bus.
