Transit Future Action Plan in Kamloops

In 2012, the Kamloops Transit Future Plan was completed and adopted by the City of Kamloops. Many of the priorities of that plan are now complete and BC Transit and the City of Kamloops has updated the plan by incorporating your vision for the Kamloops Transit System.

It is important that Kamloops' transit priorities are frequently re-evaluated to guide transit service decision-making over the next five years and beyond.

In order to update these priorities, BC Transit and the City of Kamloops has created a Transit Future Action Plan (TFAP) as a refresh to the 2020 Kamloops Transit Future Action Plan.

BC Transit and the City of Kamloops conducted a survey on the following potential changes, of which the results will be used to help make changes to the existing transit system in order to move Kamloops towards a Frequent Transit Network:

  • Modifications to 4 Pacific Way
  • Modifications to 2 Parkcrest
  • Modifications to 7 Aberdeen and re-introduction to 8 Battle
  • Introduction of 99 Southwest Loop
  • Introduction of 98 East West Express

What is Transit Future?

Transit Future is all about you, your transit system and your community. Developed with your input, these plans outline what your transit system will look like in the future. Depending on the community and its specific needs, a plan can take a variety of different forms.

See completed Kamloops transit plans here.  By being part of the development of a Transit Future Plan, you are helping to improve transit for yourself and for your entire community. When the opportunity arises, get involved, share your input, and be a part of shaping your transit system now and for the generation to come.

Why do we need Transit Future?

Transit Future guides transit investment that is supportive of livable communities, through:

  •     Offering more transportation choice
  •     Supporting smart land use plans that focus on walking, cycling and transit
  •     Meeting climate change goals
  •     Making it easy to access everyday services on foot, by bike and by transit

Help us Plan Your Future

Population and traffic growth means we need to shift our focus from moving cars to moving people. To minimize the high economic, environmental and social costs of traffic congestion and road expansion, we must move people more efficiently. Transportation should take us where we want to go, when we want to go there. To create an efficient system, we need your input. Using your input, we created a Transit Future Action Plan that will help create an efficient system for Kamloops.

How was the community involved?

All stages of the creation and implementation of the Transit Future Action Plan provide opportunities to get involved.

Phase 1 of engagement involved a customer satisfaction survey, to help us better understand where people would like to see improvements to the existing transit system. Phase 2 included open houses at the Landsdowne Transit Exchange and Thompson Rivers University, as well as an online survey that asked respondents for their thoughts on service changes and route modifications.

As we move forward with implementing priorities in the Transit Future Action Plan, there will be additional opportunities to be involved in the process. Check back here for information on how to share your input!

Moving Forward with Technology

BC Transit is committed to continuously enhancing your experience as a rider. As part of this endeavour, we are moving forward with the installation and development of technology initiatives to improve efficiency, increase security and put you in control of your BC Transit experience.
