Kootenay Lake West, Castlegar & Nelson Transit Future Service Plan

Kootenay Lake West, Castlegar and Nelson Transit Future Service Plan

The Kootenay Lake West, Castlegar and Nelson Transit Future Service Plan outlines improvements for transit service (routes and schedules), and infrastructure over the next 3-7 years in the West Kootenay Transit System. This transit future service plan focuses on service in Nelson, Trail, Castlegar, the Slocan Valley, Nakusp, Silverton, Kaslo, and Salmo.

Public Engagement

BC Transit, the Regional District of Central Kootenay, City of Nelson and the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary collected feedback on how we can improve transit in the West Kootenay Transit System. Open houses were conducted in November 2019 and the number of participants are listed below.  An online survey was also conducted, extending into December 2019.  Detailed results from both the open houses and online survey will be reported on at a later date.

Next Steps

The next step is to incorporate public input and feedback into more detailed service options.  Once completed, the plan will be presented for endorsement by the Regional District of Central Kootenay Board and the City of Nelson Council.  Following local government endorsement, BC Transit will begin updating 3-year plans to implement changes within the system.
